Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
